Rainbow collage
This activity is a fun way to keep little ones busy for a long time. First you need to go on a treasure hunt to find all the bits and pieces to use, then you need to sort them into colours and if they are still interested – stick them onto a collage.
I loved spending time with my little man while we did this and now the finished result is stuck on the door to his bedroom so we can see it all the time.
What you’ll need:
- Anything colourful and small. Feathers, beads, cardboard, match sticks, glitter etc.
- Sorting bowls or containers
- Paper
- Glue
- Blue paint and brush
- Cotton wool
- Go on a treasure hunt to find your collage materials. I searched our craft cupboard, art boxes, sewing kit, the kids rooms and anywhere I knew would be colourful things. Collect your findings in a container.
- Sort your collage material into colours. This will make it easier to make the rainbow plus it’s a fun activity in itself. Use a sectioned container, a series of small bowls or an empty egg carton to sort colours.
- On a large piece of paper, draw a rainbow. I also coloured in a little of the rainbow to show my son where which colours he could glue into each section.
- Get gluing. This is the fun part when the picture starts coming together.
- You can also paint the sky blue when you have finished. We glued on some cotton wool balls for clouds.
As I said earlier, we hung this picture on my sons door but it also makes a lovely gift for the grandparents. You can also apply the same method to make cards for friends.
