Cardboard Roll Dragon Craft

I don’t know about your household, but we go through quite a few toilet rolls. And rarely are they placed in the bin once they’re empty. They will be put back in the toilet roll storage or left on the window OR just left as is on the holder. I often keep the empty cardboard rolls for craft activities and this textured paper dragon craft will use up a few of those rolls if each kid in your house makes one.

Instructions

1. Wrap the green paper around your cardboard roll and fasten with sticky tape.

2. Add a bubble wrap layer to act as the dragon’s ‘scales’. Use sticky tape to stick together.

3. Paint the bubble wrap green (or whatever your choice). My girls wanted orange dragons so they painted their rolls orange. Set the rolls aside to dry.

4. Once the paint is dry, glue eyes on the medium pom poms and glue these to the back of the roll. Glue the smaller pom poms to the front of the roll to act as the nostrils.

5. Cut strips of orange and red paper, and use the scissors to curl the ribbon.

6. Attach the curled ribbon inside the roll, near the nostrils, to act as flames.

My girls have LOVED playing with their dragons. They were adamant about creating ‘girl’ dragons hence the orange colour and eyelashes on one dragon. It kind of looks like Hank the octopus from Finding Dory.

Instead of rolled paper, you could use strips of crepe paper so when kids blow through the roll, their dragon looks to be blowing out fire.
